Below is a giant concrete core that was discarded into a local watershed. These watersheds are the beginning of our ecosystems and a source for all types of local and migratory water fowl and developing crustaceans and fish. This core was salvaged with the vision of Brett transforming it into functional art.
Rescue is the process of removing or recovering waste materials from natural areas such as watersheds in our lagoons or the undeveloped open spaces of our canyons and ridges. Working with scientists, community leaders and environmental groups, the idea is to locate discarded material in these natural settings and investigate with the help of experts on whether or not removing the material will be best for nature. If so, the material is carefully removed and then incorporated into creative designs called environmental art.
Below after polished the concrete core to bring out the aggregate’s colors, it is then sealed to protect the finish. The core is used as weight to counter balance and keep the functional art from falling.
The end result of this combination of rescuing waste materials from local watersheds and upcycling the material is a Brett Haydn Design original Sofa Table.
